EVS Experience in 1st hand!
Since March 2010 that Spin has hosted an EVS volunteer: María Rodríguez Baez, from Paraguay! She will tell you a bit about her experience!...
My name is María and I would like to tell you a little story about my EVS experience in Lisbon, Portugal. During the time I was in Portugal, there were many things that enhaced my personal and profesional growth.
At the begining, it was little bit hard for many reasons. Eventhouth portuguese language is very similar to spanish, when I had arrived I was not able to understand a word, the city and its people were new for me. This provokes some concerns since many new things are happening at the same time. However, after a few days everything seems to get better, unknown people become my best friends, the language is not a problem anymore and all what is happening seems to be extraordinary.
During my EVS I did many things: I had visited museums, monasteries and castles. Lisbon is a charming city, decadent and old but romantic. When I arrive to Spin, my hosting organization, had planned to organize two youth exchanges in Lisbon city and to participate in another two exchanges abroad. I had participated in the organization of one bilateral Exchange (Spain and Portugal) and another multilateral Exchange of five countries (Bosnia-Hezergovina, Serbia, Turkey, Italy and Portugal) which both took place in Lisbon. Moreover, I had participated as a leader in the bilateral Exchange in Córdoba-Spain and in the multilateral Exchange in Germany of seven countries (Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Hungary, Germany and Portugal). In all the youth exchanges I had the opportunity to meet people from different cultures who speaks other languages which is always enriching. I had also participated in informative sessions about the Youth in Action Programme in local schools, and we were able to send more than 8 portuguese volunteers to different countries as well as different tasks related projects. Moreover, I had participated in the Youth Festival organized by Junta de Freguesia de Carnide, as well as in the preparation of two vídeos, one Spin´s short promotional video and another one about my EVS experience. Another accomplishment was that I had obtained a portuguese language diploma!
I could continue for hours and hours, however, I believe this is enough to appreciate what I did accomplish in 6 months. To sum up, I hope you could see the magnitude of living an intercultural experience, take advange of this opportunity!
Kisses from sunny Lisboa!!!"

O meu nome é María e vou contar a história do meu SVE em Lisboa, Portugal.
Durante o meu EVS fiz muitas coisas: visitei museus, mosteiros e castelos.
