SPIN AGE - Spin's EVS project

 Hosting Organization: Associação Spin, Lisbon (2012-PT-21)
Project EVS service dates:
- 2 volunteers for the period February-October 2014;
- 2 volunteers for the period June 2014-February 2015
Project lasts: 9 months for each volunteer

ACTIVITIES PROPOSED TO THE VOLUNTEERS:

Association Spin is looking for 4 volunteers for a long term EVS project in Lisbon, Portugal. In your application please specify which department you are applying to.

The volunteers will participate in the activities of the European Programmes and Mobility Department by collaborating in:
- preparation of new project proposals on the frames of the Youth in Action Programme, Lifelong Learning Programme and others in the field of youth, training and education.
- coordination of EVS sending activities, such as assisting in the preparation for departure, travel arrangements.
- organization and implementation of youth exchanges and trainings.
- organization and active participation in information sessions in schools, seminars and conferences in order to promote European mobility opportunities.
- research and collect information about European opportunities for young people for the elaboration of the monthly newsletter/mailing and update information on the website.

The volunteers will participate in the activities of the Image and Communication Department by collaborating in:
- preparation, formatting and mailing of the monthly newsletter
- maintaining and updating all Spin’s communication channels
- the graphic design of the blog, website, brochures, posters, flyers and promotional materials for the organization and other publications using his/her creativity
- documenting all Spin’s activities and dissemination of information; general support in the activities of association

All volunteers will participate also in:
- Support in management of the SPIN Hostel (hosting people, answering to requests of information, cooking and cleaning together with international groups, decorating, arranging and maintaining the communication regarding the Hostel)
- Implementing and organizing their own project activities/ideas with the local community of Bairro Padre Cruz in Carnide, with the support and guidance of SPIN.

Regarding the projects with the local community, the volunteers will be engaged in the organization of cultural and social activities for young people, as well as in the inclusion projects held in the neighbourhood (for instance: support in the preparation of CV's and cover letters and search of employment opportunities). If they wish to, they may also participate in the local community group meetings twice per month and in this way be more aware of the issues of the community of Bairro Padre Cruz.
Spin Association believes that these tasks promote personal growth and maturity by putting the volunteers in touch with problematic social and cultural issues they may not have yet known to exist. It will develop their sense of social reality and responsibility towards the others.

The volunteers are going to be members of our team and will work in an intercultural environment, both formal and non-formal. The volunteer(s) will be encouraged to be proactive by designing their own initiatives with Association's approval. They may organize or direct videos, photo workshops, contests, etc through which they attempt to draw attention to issues of interest that advance association's social goals; or they may implement workshops, trainings, events exploring themes such citizenship, human rights, intercultural dialogue and others of their interest.


LOGISTICS & PRACTICAL INFO:

• Accommodation
Coordinating organization, Associação Spin, will provide the lodging in a flat as close to the volunteer placement as possible or in the city center. If the apartment will be located in the city center, volunteers will spend 35-45 minutes in bus and subway to reach the volunteer placement.
The volunteers will have to share the room with another volunteer/student/young person.
Room and connected expenses are paid by the Coordinating Organization.
• Food
A monthly allowance of 185 Euros will be provided by the coordinating organization to cover food expenses and local public transportations.
• Pocket money
Every month the volunteer will receive 95 Euros for pocket money.

• Working hours
Volunteers are expected to spend 30-35 hours a week working. The daily timetable includes time for language lessons, lunch, social activities and development of own project ideas, etc.
Volunteers are entitled to two days off for every month of their voluntary work.

VOLUNTEERS’ PROFILE: WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Volunteers aged 18-30 years, open minded, eager to learn about new cultures and lifestyles, as well as to participate in the proposed project activities with the local community.
It is not required to have any particular degree of formal education, but to have positive and proactive attitude, show tolerance, flexibility and capacity to adapt, motivation and enthusiasm.

- as we expect a high number of applications, keep in mind that if we do not get in touch with you until September, 10th it means you have not been selected this time;
- only selected volunteers will be contacted and invited for a brief Skype interview.
